As a Lead Artificial Intelligence (AI) Facilitator, you will be an integral part of Purdue’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) team, helping lead RCAC’s research support for AI. You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of the field by contributing to Purdue’s overall AI strategy and helping guide its direction. This position will provide an opportunity to work on a variety of data science and AI projects. 


With limited oversight from manager, you will be responsible as the subject matter expert for leading, designing, and managing projects that support AI on large-scale research computing systems. You will provide measurable input and engage in active development of collaborative partnerships with university researchers, centers, staff, national partners, and/or vendors to lead implementation of data analytics and AI projects needed to drive Purdue’s cutting-edge research. You will utilize creativity and innovation to solve complex computational problems raised by researchers and help reduce research bottlenecks. You will consult with researchers to identify and determine requirements based on their unique research needs, provide data science and AI expertise, and collaborate with them to develop proposal opportunities. You will lead the evaluation and deployment of various custom and enterprise AI tools and use data to communicate with leadership and other stakeholders. You will design and deliver training workshops on tools that support AI research. You may be responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.


We are seeking individuals with expertise in AI, ML, or data science and will provide support, mentorship, and training in cyberinfrastructure (CI) best practices to the successful candidate to support research teams at Purdue and nationally. 

 

Rosen Center for Advanced Computing values and support engagement in national computing activities, workshops, conferences, and interest groups and provides ample opportunities to innovate and present research activities at appropriate venues.
 

This position has a target salary of $108,000 - $114,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is a hybrid position where you will work a combination of time on the Purdue campus and remotely.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed

  • Master’s degree in engineering, math, physical or life sciences, computer science or related field; PhD preferred
  • Four (4) years of experience in data analysis, algorithms, and software development; implementing and supporting machine learning or data analytics applications or workflows on large scale research computing system; working with large volumes of data, developing custom analysis methods, and optimizing performance of data-intensive computing applications; and/or using higher-level languages such as Python and/or R in relation to data analytics
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be accepted


Skills Needed:

  • Familiarity with all aspects of a data science and AI lifecycle and common data science best practices
  • Expertise in AI and deep learning, from traditional deep learning to emerging GenAI models
  • Knowledge of common data science and ML technologies, languages, frameworks, and packages (e.g., Python, SQL, tensorflow/pytorch, pandas)
  • Demonstrated project management and prioritization skills with the ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks, and complete projects with minimal supervision
  • Ability to:
    • work positively in an inclusive and diverse environment
    • work as part of a high performing team in a collaborative environment
    • mentor other students

 

Preferred:  

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor other professionals and delegate tasks
  • Good English communication skills, including experience in submitting papers or contributing to grant proposals
