We are currently seeking a full-time, onsite Benefits Administrator or Senior Benefits Administrator (42640) for the Human Resources department. This position will be supervised by the Manager of HR Operations and will serve as the primary back-up to the Employee Relations and Organizational Development Administrator as needed or requested.The salary range for this position is $48,800.00-$64,000.00; dependent upon position offered and experience.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Benefits:

  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of the benefits programs; reports up to the Manager of HR Operations.
  • Manage and administer benefits programs; advise employees of policies and procedures relating to medical plans, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, worker’s compensation, retirement plans, flexible spending and health savings accounts, voluntary benefits, etc.
  • Partner with Purdue West Lafayette (PWL) to oversee clinic operations; run report and distribute clinic utilization information.
  • Provide educational meetings/materials for new and current faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate and execute the annual open enrollment process for the Fort Wayne campus; collaborate with Purdue in system-wide strategic benefit planning and development; and interpretation of policies to troubleshoot and resolve problems timely.
  • Administer leave of absence processes, including FMLA and personal leaves, by coordinating required paperwork, documentation, and employee notifications; partner with Employment Services/Payroll to ensure accurate time administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Back-Up Duties:

  • Serve as the primary back-up for the Employee Relations and Organizational Development Administrator during an absence and when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

HR Generalist Functions:

  • Perform routine HR tasks and answers employee questions to support key HR programs, including, but not limited to benefits, performance management, employment services, talent acquisition, compensation reviews, payroll, and employee events.
  • Assist with maintaining front desk coverage when needed, ensuring a professional, welcoming experience for all HR office visitors.
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants, candidates, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters to the Manager of HR Operations.
  • Serve as an HR Generalist to provide back-up for other members of the HR Team, as needed.
  • Create and produce departmental reports and assist in the development, revision of reports as requested by the Manager of HR Operations or Associate Vice Chancellor of HR.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, OLS, Business Management, Organizational Development or related field required; Experience in lieu of education may be considered: 
      • Associates with 2 years of direct experience or
      • HS/GED with 4 years of direct experience is acceptable for the in lieu of the Bachelors. 
  • Minimum of one to three years of Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum of two years of benefits administration experience.
  • Requires strong analytical skills to effectively make decisions based on knowledge of a situation and identified factors.
  • Broad knowledge in employment law, compensation, organizational development, employee relations, safety, training, and development and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of change management principles beneficial.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; this position requires a high level of interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills to effectively interact with employees and supervisors. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build trust across levels of the institution.
  • Strong technical skills; including proficiency with Microsoft Office and above average database knowledge.
  • Ability to protect sensitive information, ensure confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Proficient project management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills with attention to details.
  • Demonstrates honesty and loyalty to the University and support its mission and values; uses discretion in sharing university information with non-employees.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Specialized training in benefits administration, employment law, compensation, organizational development, employee relations, safety and training strongly preferred.
  • Higher education experience a plus.
