We are currently seeking a full-time on-site Business Clerk in our Administrative Business Services. The Business Clerk serves as first contact and is an informational resource for the College of Science and College of Liberal Arts regarding financial issues. The Business Clerk will facilitate the exchange of financial documents and transactions between the college departments and the university and handle various procedural and policy questions This position’s hourly wage is $17.02.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and address all financial documents flowing through the business offices for signature.
  • Address faculty and staff questions or problems regarding financial issues.
  • Determine recharges for internal and external billings.
  • Prepare, adjust, and correct account entries via funds(s) transfers, budget changes, journal vouchers, direct invoice vouchers, and intramural vouchers. 
  • Research and prepare various reports for the college’s business manager, deans, and department chairs.
  • Prepare and maintain files on all college budgets and non-purchasing fiscal transactions.
  • Research historical financial transaction data for the college’s business manager.
  • Receive and deposit checks and cash for college and departmental programs.
  • Provide hands-on financial systems end-user training to college’s clerical/service staff. 
  • Interpret, communicate, and implement university procedures and policies.
  • Make determinations regarding adherence to university fiscal policies, completeness of documentation, accuracy of account numbers and funding sources.
  • Order supplies and equipment for the business office.

Required Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma or GED; will consider experience in lieu of education.
  • 3 years of general office, accounting, human resources, or other business related experience.
  • Proficient in word processing and database management software.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Able to assist in managing competing priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and organize workflow.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in accounting, business, or related field.
  • Prior work experience with Excel, university, or ERP systems.
  • University experience in accounting processes and/or payroll.
  • Aware of university business office and human resources policies and procedures.
