Maintenance Mechanic - Student Housing - RECRUITMENT PAUSED

Job Summary

Perform preventive maintenance on all university electrical, mechanical, building structure, plumbing, ventilation systems and components.  Responsibilities include:


  • Respond to daily work orders and perform preventive maintenance on ventilating units including motors, fans, belts, etc.
  • Clean heating and cooling coils
  • Repair, lubricate and adjust door hardware, hinges, closures, etc.
  • Repair and replace plumbing fixtures including faucets, etc.
  • Repair, replace and install lighting fixtures, bulbs, etc.
  • Reset breakers, replace fuses and motor fans, etc.
  • Assist outside contractors in locating facilities, equipment, etc.
  • Identify and diagnose problems with electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems that my be required 
  • Check for excessive or unusual heat, vibration, etc.
  • Assemble and install furniture, shelves, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Monitor temperatures, pressures, flow rates and assist in logging equipment recordings




  • High school diploma/GED
  • Two years experience in general building maintenance
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to move, lift, carry, push and pull 50 to 80 pounds occasionally
  • Must have the ability to work at various heights on ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records policy
  • Must have the ability to work "on-call" basis




  • Vocational/technical training
  • Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and preventive maintenance experience
  • Commercial or industrial experience
