You would work closely with 22+ in-house staff, including an executive creative director, and senior leads in editorial, web development, photography, project management, media, events management, and public relations. The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

 

  • The Art Director helps lead detail-oriented execution of visual direction across various campaign creative build-outs, and aligns related design assets, graphics, photography, and content structures across multiple communication platforms and needs.
  • Team members track, align, and document key steps during project production, to ensure collaboration, discussions, schedules, and specs are captured and completed. Proficiency in effectively using shared project management systems, including Basecamp, calendars, and shared drives is essential.
  • Team members often use online meetings, presentations, and collaboration tools to communicate and present ideas and status updates using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or other video sharing software. Effective use and ongoing proficiency is expected.
  • The Art Director must share a strong commitment to creative collaboration, brainstorming, and the ability to work intuitively, flexibly, and effectively in a fast-paced, in-house agency environment, strengthened by constructive and supportive team feedback.

What are the position essentials required as the Art Director?

 

  • Bachelor's degree in design, art, fine arts, communications, or related field.
  • Six to seven years of progressive experience within a design studio-type environment preferred, or a minimum of three years relevant experience — accompanied by a strong portfolio — showcasing masterful talent and execution skills in a variety of innovative and industry leading graphic design solutions, as well as developing strong image and/or video-based productions may be considered.
  • Strong design skills with refined aesthetic sensibilities required to create visually innovative solutions, combined with a prior background in one or more areas of core concentration: design, online promotions and website design, branding, communications, photography, marketing, advertising, public relations, or related fields, as evidenced by a strong portfolio.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and relevant creative processes, from concepts to outcomes, which successfully help drive communications and marketing initiatives across print and/or digital platforms strategically targeted to various audiences.
  • Strong technical and execution skills across a variety of the industry’s leading graphic, type, and image-based software production suites.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to think strategically and purposefully.
  • Commitment to diversity and building and supporting inclusive communities in a team environment is critical.

What are the additional preferred requirements of the Art Director?

 

  • Previous experience in higher education communications, in-house corporate communications, or relevant agency.
  • Experience in creatively using, directing, or creating unique photography and/or video assets to help showcase an authentic and compelling campus experience is highly desired. 
  • Design solutions, asset development, strong visual coordination, and related development skills to enhance coordinated web design, electronic communications, and social and mobile environments is desired.
