Assistant Athletic Director for Mastodon Academic Performance Center - Fort Wayne

Job Summary


The Assistant Athletic Director for the Mastodon Athletic Performance Center (MAP) oversees the academic support and life skills programing of DI student-athletes and all MAP Center staff.  This position is responsible for all aspects of running the academic support center (MAP) for student-athletes. This position will also have Sport Administrator responsibilities as assigned.  Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, overseeing special events for student-athletes such as recognizing Academic performance, Athletic performance, Career Development, Personal Development and Service to the Community. This position must collaborate closely with the Athletic Compliance Office to coordinate the certification of NCAA student-athlete eligibility, as well as any other academic mandated NCAA or institutional academic programing.  Additional responsibilities include:


  • Informing, updating and educating student-athletes, coaches and other administrative athletic staff on all relevant academic programs being provided by the MAP Center.  Continuous evaluation of these programs for improvement or due to changes in NCAA rules is vital for ensuring accurate and timely updates to offered programs. These may include but are not limited to; overseeing the implementation of a freshman success course specifically for student-athletes, and maintaining and implementing academic support programs for “at-risk” student-athletes.  

  • Oversight of Life Skills programing is a component of this position, and should include career development and transitional skills out of college.
  • This position may provide direct academic support to some student-athletes, depending on the staffing in the MAP Center.  
  • Coordination of all of the above with the greater campus, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs is also a responsibility of this position.

  • Master's degree.
  • Four to five years of experience monitoring NCAA eligibility and knowledge of NCAA rules, as well as knowledge of creating a healthy and positive student-athlete experience. 
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of NCAA DI academics and life skills.
  • Current NCAA academic eligibility rules for DI and strong communication skills. 




  • Experience as a sport administrator and academic support is desired.  
  • Knowledge of student development, advising, learning, retention theories and best practices are preferred, particularly as they relate to DI student-athletes.
