Assistant Director for Employer Relations

The Assistant Director for Employer Relations is responsible for building relationships and creating awareness among corporate and community organizations with regard to the benefits of hiring Purdue Fort Wayne students and graduates, and of the services of the Career Development Center. The goals of the position are to increase job posting, recruitment, internship and hiring activity for the university's students and graduates and to generate increased support for the career center and the university.

 

The Work: What type of work will you be doing?

  • Employer Connections 65%:
    • Proactively develop and implement strategies designed to increase employment opportunities for university students and alumni.
    • Strengthen existing and identify new potential relationships with regional, state, and national employers for recruitment of university students and alumni working with the Executive Director for top employer partners.
    • Coordinate and manage employer relations events (such as Talent Tuesday, Career Connections, Immersion Excursions, Career and Internship Fairs).
    • Work closely with college specific Career Development Center liaisons.
    • Involve them in company visits and meetings when appropriate and keep them informed of internship and job opportunities.
    • Work through liaisons to connect employers with faculty and academic departments.
    • Participate actively in various local, state, regional, and national organizations such as chambers of commerce, societies of human resource management, and NACE.
    • Support the Executive Director in creating and implementing an employer advisory council to inform the Career Development Center on current topics and trends in various industries which impact PFW students.
  • Alumni Relations 5%:
    • Work closely with university Director of Alumni Relations to build relationships with alumni in order to better utilize connections in local businesses, and recruit alumni to share career advice and mentoring with current students.
    • Support students to transition from student status to alumni status (such as Handshake profile, inform of services provided to alumni).
  • Database Management 15%:
    • Utilize Handshake to build a detailed system of employer relationship management, which will allow for efficient compilation of lists when needed to communicate with employers for various events and other purposes including a system to identify employer partnership (such as Handshake labels) with Employer Companies and Employer contacts.
    • Manage employer and job approvals in Handshake.
    • Create and manage Qualtrics surveys, Handshake data, institutional data and MS Excel spreadsheets and analyze data to inform decisions for the Career Development Center team.
  • Experiential Learning Opportunity Management 15%:
    • Supervise the Experiential Learning Coordinator Collaborate and support the Experiential Learning Coordinator in promoting, structuring, managing opportunities (internships, co-ops) across campus and with employers.
    • Create and distribute experiential learning opportunities in Handshake and notify career liaisons to promote to students and programs.
    • Assist employers with posting internship and co-op positions in Handshake.
    • Work with employers to complete appropriate forms and communicate with academic department to ensure students are enrolled in appropriate courses.

 

What are the position essentials required as an Assistant Director?

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4-5 years of experience in career services, employer relations, recruiting, sales, or other position requiring networking and connecting with numerous employers.
  • Excellent customer services skills, strong interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Excellent information system and database management skills.
  • Excellent networking and connecting skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute events.

 

What are the additional preferred requirements of an Assistant Director?

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience working with Handshake platform.
  • Experience working with academic units and internships is a plus.
