Dean Doermer School of Business
The Position
Purdue University Fort Wayne, one of seven institutions and entities comprising the Purdue University public system in Indiana, seeks a creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next Dean of the Richard T. Doermer School of Business. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean will lead the Doermer School of Business to become a transformative, premier choice for students, faculty, and staff, providing a world-class education through excellence in teaching and learning, research and innovation, engagement, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. The School, which includes four departments (Accounting, Economics and Finance, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Management and Marketing), has undergraduate enrollment of approximately 900 students and an MBA enrollment of approximately 100 students.
Position Summary
The primary duties of the Dean are to provide academic leadership, oversight of the School’s departments, budget and staff management, and community development, and continuous improvement so as to maintain the AACSB accreditation. The Dean will also be expected to engage the external community, fundraise for support and development of the School and its faculty, and cooperate with other University entities and constituents to ensure the School’s continued excellence in business education. Success in the role will require an individual who can inspire and unify the community around shared priorities, continue to attract, retain, and cultivate talented faculty and diverse students, and empower a dedicated staff. The Dean will also be expected to fundraise for and complete the renovation of the new building housing the Doermer School of Business in partnership with our Office of Development. This project is already underway and a critical step in a targeted effort to educate the next generation of students.
The incoming Dean must come from an AACSB accredited institution, be committed to maintaining and developing AACSB accreditation, have an extensive research history with publications in peer-reviewed journals (ABDC, etc.), serve as an exceptional communicator skilled at building relationships with internal and external partners, represent the college compellingly to stakeholders and donors, and demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will also demonstrate evidence of:
- Exemplary academic qualifications (as defined by AACSB-International) in one of the disciplines of the School, including an earned doctorate and a record of outstanding academic achievement necessary for appointment as a tenured full professor at Purdue Fort Wayne;
- Significant experience with AACSB-International accreditation;
- Successful academic leadership experience at the department chair level or above, including curricular design, strategic planning, and mobilization of others around a common vision;
- Effective interpersonal skills that shape their interactions with the School’s internal and external stakeholders; and
- Strong commitment to student success, faculty excellence in teaching and research, institutional diversity, and community outreach.
Candidates with experience or familiarity with a regional, public university campus and success with major fundraising initiatives are especially welcome.
