Director of Development - Development - Fort Wayne

Job Summary

 

Develop and execute a plan to increase resources for the university.  Activities include soliciting and securing major gifts to further the strategic plan of the university; building relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors through face-to-face meetings; stewarding existing donors to increase donor retention.  Reports to the Vice Chancellor for Development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • In cooperation with the Vice Chancellor for Development, develop and execute a plan to increase donations to the University through active interaction with donors within an assigned portfolio
  • Identify and establish personal contact with current and prospective major gift donors whose interest and financial capacity have the greatest likelihood of strategically meeting the university fundraising goals
  • Orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through the appropriate stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Prepare proposals and solicit prospects for gifts in support of the University’s strategic plan and fundraising priorities
  • Collaborate with the appropriate development and academic staff to develop prospect strategies and build relationships
  • Host or co-host receptions and other donor events locally, regionally, and nationally
  • Attend university events as needed, including evenings and weekends
  • Participate in professional networking and educational opportunities
Required:

 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent skills in writing and speaking
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and relationship building skills
  • Must be able to develop and execute a successful plan to manage a portfolio of approximately 125
  • Ability to address multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve agreed upon measurable goals
  • Must be willing to function as part of a cohesive team, always working collegially and collaboratively

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience in higher education or other non-profit organizations
  • Familiarity with programs and mission of Purdue University Fort Wayne
