ECE/SEM Lab Technician - Electrical and Computer Engineering - RECRUITMENT PAUSED

Job Summary

This ECE/SEM lab technician supports both ECE department and SEM lab with regular office hours 8-12 pm (ECE) and 1-5 pm (SEM).  The duties and responsibilities are:

 

ECE Department:

 

  • Provide laboratory technical support for the teaching/research/service of ECE department
  • Help with the ECE labs, course assessment form preparations and summarize the results in spreadsheets
  • Make recommendations of lab facility update
  • Responsible of ECE safety certification
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

 

SEM Lab:

 

  • Provide, under the supervision of the lab's director, technical assistance in imaging and analyzing materials, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and other available instruments and equipment in the labs
  • Maintain the lab safety, collect and prepare samples for testing, store and analyze data
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating laboratory and testing facilities, equipment, supplies, and scheduling to support clients and faculty for their business, research and educational activities

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Following standardized protocol and procedures, conduct a variety of imaging and analytical jobs to characterize materials and interpret the results
  • Set up and calibrate the instruments, store, report, and distribute the data/results to clients and users; perform routine maintenance of the instruments
  • Prepare the samples for analyses, such as sputter coating, slicing, grinding and other necessary steps before instrumental analyses
  • Manage the scheduling and services for users and clients; provide necessary training for them
  • Coordinate with the instrument suppliers/manufactures for services and troubleshooting
  • Oversee and coordinate laboratory operations and facilities; supervise the work of users, clients, and students working in the lab
  • Order, purchase, and maintain inventories of equipment and supplies needed for testing purposes; establish and maintain the records of instrument times and operating conditions
  • Maintain safe lab environment
  • Maintain and update the website of the lab
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

 

Required:

 

  • Associate degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted in lieu of degree
  • Three years work experience in analog-digital electronics, computers, SEM and other materials characterization instruments
  • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of electronics test equipment
  • Experience with electrical wiring of PLC controller systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, printed circuit board, electronic soldering, Programmable Logic Controller, etc.
  • Knowledge of fundamental material sciences and analyses
  • Ability to set up, calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the testing equipment and instruments, such as SEM and others in the lab
  • Ability to prepare and process the testing samples using established protocols
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
  • Ability to coordinate and maintain laboratory protocol, procedures, equipment, and facilities
  • Ability to train and supervise the users, clients, faculty and students in laboratory operations
