Job Summary

This position will assist students and parents with the FAFSA application process, resolving of requirements and finding and implementing funding sources to finance the student’s education; communicate options and advise as to which options are most beneficial for the student’s specific circumstances and needs. Advise students regarding the withdrawal process, policies and procedures and analyze the impact on each individual student’s financial aid. Ensure regulatory compliance and strict FERPA policies; correctly interpret FAFSA requirements and Federal tax information required for the FAFSA; exercise professional judgment with respect to student’s individual special circumstances and needs. Maintain current semester student records. Provide customer service in person, over the phone or via email and video conferencing.

  • Provide student-focused advising regarding the entire FAFSA application, verification requirements, resolution of C-Flags, and eligibility requirements to receive Federal and State aid. 
  • Advise student and families on PFW financial aid process including aid disbursement, refunding, bookstore credit as well as the university billing and payment processes, policies and procedures. 
  • Advise students and parents on available resources outside of Federal and State aid including private loans, outside scholarships and Questa loans.
  • Assist students with paperwork to secure additional funding resources from outside agencies including completing scholarship application forms, FSSA forms for SNAP and Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation forms, Indiana ETV forms, housing verifications forms and completing SAP appeals. 
  • Advise students on PFW withdrawal processes and policies, analyzing each individual student’s financial aid to determine the potential impact on their aid. 
  • Advise students on maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and PFW policies and procedures regarding SAP appeals
  • Processing SAP appeals
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other advisors regarding policies and procedures
  • Ability to triage student’s complaints and independently determine when to escalate and to whom
  • Updating student name and address changes in Banner and Purdue system
  • Bachelor’s degree required in information systems, business or accounting
  • Experience in Financial Aid providing customer service
  • Ability to effectively ask sensitive probing questions to ascertain student’s needs is essential
  • Ability to work independently to resolve issues
  • Must be analytical and detail-oriented with effective organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, office equipment, multiple phone lines and audio/video for conferencing
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Familiarity with Banner SIS and PFW
  • Typing 50+ wpm
  • Ability to speak Spanish
