Your day to day:

  • Perform field maintenance duties while maintaining campus trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and landscape.
  • Perform general ground maintenance, repair, and janitorial duties of fields, fencing, common areas, amenities, parking lots and other areas. 
  • Assist with planning and implementing annual renovation projects. 
  • Utilize Integrated Pest Management Techniques and apply chemicals, fertilizers, insecticides, etc. in accordance with Indiana State Chemist.
  • Determine appropriate pest control methods and apply appropriate pesticides.
  • Perform snow removal using sophisticated snow removal equipment and ensures campus safety. 
  • Attend professional seminars to remain current with the field. 
  • Assist with special events; may require overtime. 
  • Be on a 24-hour callback for emergencies.
  • Maintain ash butlers, litter receptacles, trash, recycling bags, etc
  • Maintain and oversee inventory of supplies and recommend equipment orders.
  • Provide supervision for student/temporary workers, determine work priorities, assign and check work, train, and handle on-site complaints.   
  • Winterize, repair, and store equipment.
  • Perform routine, preventative maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.

Why we’ll love you:

  • You have worked hard to earn a High School Diploma or GED.
  • You have at least four years of experience with grounds maintenance.
  • You have 3b and 3a Pesticide Applicators license.
  • You have a working knowledge of plant science including identification of deficiencies in plants and trees.
  • You have knowledge of ornamental growth habits, pruning requirements and methods, planting methods, nutrient requirements and insect and disease diagnosis. 
  • You have knowledge of equipment in the maintenance, repair and renovation of athletic facilities.
  • You possess the ability to read chemical labels and read material safety data sheets (SDS). 
  • You are able to calibrate spray and fertilizing equipment. 
  • You are able to work with customers in a courteous, efficient and tactful manner.
  • You can establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public. 
  • You have a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records policy.
  • You have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move 50 to 80 pounds frequently, and up to 100 + pounds occasionally.
  • You are able to work in various temperatures and wear personal protective gear as necessary.
