Senior Web Developer - Communications and Marketing - Fort Wayne

Job Summary



The Senior Web Developer provides innovative solutions for websites, digital campaigns, and mobile and multimedia experiences across multiple platforms.  Our in-house creative team is aligning to a digital-first communications strategy, while we overhaul our online presence as well as architect a headless CMS technology stack.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing creative team as it evolves the brand and online technology strategy for one of the nation's premier universities.  Responsibilities include:


  • Play a central role in planning and developing the university's website and overall digital presence including informing information architecture, design implementation, and user-interface development
  • Develop engaging and innovate user interfaces that meet business, design, communication, technical, and functional requirements
  • Ensure that all website features and updates are well tested and function as expected
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for the university's web technology stack
  • Assist with website administration, including maintaining dotCMS environments as well as developing and updating Drupal core and contributed modules, implementing hot-fixes, and monitoring website security and performance
  • Ensure projects incorporate all stakeholder requirements, employ best practices in user interface, navigation, usability, accessibility, search engine optimization, and browser compatibility on all major devices
  • Develop clickable prototypes as well as production-ready graphics, HTML, and CSS for interfaces, templates, and websites
  • Troubleshoot coding issues and implement bug fixes
  • Collaborate with other team members such as web developers and visual designers on implementing static and interactive designs as well as integrating photography, video, custom motion, and animation assets into digital experiences
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, design/visual communication or comparable field (experience will be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • Three to five years experience in web development
  • Proficiency with HTML5; CSS3; JavaScript; PHP, particularly object-oriented programming; REST or RESTful APIs; Git, build tools, command line, and agile development; analytics, search engine optimization, and URL administration
  • Experience with database management and SQL
  • Familiarity with Drupal, WordPress, or other content management systems 
  • Experience using debugging tools
  • Strong adherence to security and performance best practices, coding standards and documentation, W3C accessibility recommendations
  • Strong time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for learning new tools and techniques and for knowledge sharing
  • Ability to produce and thrive within a supportive, dynamic, and fast-paced environment with a wide variety of university staff, including direct client interface on projects


  • Experience developing and customizing Drupal themes and components; headless or decoupled Drupal
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, Ember, or Vue
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services
  • Active participation in the Drupal community
  • Proficiency in graphic creation and editing programs such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of leading operating systems, file-sharing platforms, archival, networking, and project-management software such as Basecamp, Trello, Slack, and Microsoft Office suite
