Web Designer/Front-end Web Developer - Communications and Marketing - Fort Wayne

Job Summary

 

 

The Web Designer/Front-end Web Developer provides innovative solutions to create robust online user experiences.  A strong emphasis is placed on the visual and brand integration of user interfaces for high-priority websites, brand communications, marketing initiatives, microsites, advertising and digital campaigns, mobile and multimedia experiences across a variety of platforms and systems.  Our in-house creative team is aligning to a digital-first communications strategy, while we plan for an overhaul of our overall online presence.  This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an evolving brand and design strategy for one of the nation's premier higher education brands and join an energetic creative team that is growing and engaged in new bold and creative leaps.

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide high-level design solutions for intuitive user experiences across multiple media platforms through information architecture, visual design and initial user interface development for websites
  • Design innovative and comprehensive visual and functional solutions for websites, including micro-sites, online promotions, ad banners, emails, e-newsletters, e-vites, mobile, and other digital interfaces
  • May conduct relevant project research and provide data, technical, and trend-based design solutions and feedback; stay abreast of leading and emerging trends in digital communications, including best practices in communications, marketing, and branding
  • Design wireframes, production quality mock-ups, and clickable prototypes as well as production-ready graphics, HTML, and CSS for interfaces, templates and websites; shepherd design and review process from concept wireframes and storyboards, to digital presentation comps, to final executed products
  • Provide creative direction and guidance on the work of junior web designers; may lead and/or mentor other designers in establishing best practices for digital interactions
  • Help develop coherent information architecture and navigation systems for complex, multi-level sites with multiple sections and cross-linking pages
  • Ensure projects incorporate all stakeholder requirements, employ best practices in user interface, navigation, usability, accessibility, search engine optimization, and works in all browsers on all devices
  • Collaborate closely with other team members such as web developers and visual designers on implementing static and interactive designs, as well as integrating photography, video, custom motion, and animation assets into digital executions
  • Assist in content and visual management for the University's top-tier web pages, social media sites, and other assigned online accounts
  • Monitor websites for outdated information, expired pages, broken links, and technical problems
  • Design and produce graphics, templates, illustrations, icons, and other digital artwork for use in related communication projects (online, print, environmental graphics, video, etc.)
  • Follow defined branding guidelines as required
  • Assist in establishing project specifications and adhere to production schedules for all assigned projects; create and update documentation relating to project status, process, location of media assets, and use
  • Stay abreast of current trends in web design, usability, and information architecture, including current web aesthetics, with demonstrated mastery of typography, color theory, and use of space
  • Maintain a mastery of a variety of graphic creation and editing programs such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • May perform other related duties as required
Required:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, design/visual communication, graphic design, media communications, or related field (experience will be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • Three years experience in the design and development of websites and other related digital communications products
  • Graphic design, user interface design, and information architecture experience with specific and proven examples in desktop and mobile
  • Superior knowledge of latest digital communications trends and execution standards
  • Strong proficiency in leading front-end languages, including current variants of HTML5 and CSS3, and responsive web design for mobile websites
  • Ability to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve browser and device issues or bugs, as necessary
  • Coding experience with JavaScript, jQuery, and SVG as well as front-end frameworks such as Foundation or Bootstrap
  • Proficiency in integrating design and development within content management systems and similar technologies and platforms, Integrated Development Environments, code versioning (Git), and Command Line
  • Knowledge of leading operating systems, file-sharing platforms, archival, networking, project management software such as Basecamp, Trello, Slack, and Microsoft Office suite
  • This position may be required to be in communication with other Communications and Marketing staff and senior administrators, and/or perform key work tasks, in off-hours or off-location conditions as required to execute special projects or critical communications as conditions may demand
  • Possess strong visual, verbal, and written communications skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and work effectively with a wide variety of University staff, including direct client interface on projects

 

Preferred:

 

  • Previous experience in Web design and/or front-end Web development for an in-house or agency communications and marketing group
