Overview of Assistant Softball Coach
Purdue University Northwest is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach. Reporting to the Head Softball Coach, this position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the softball team. Must have strong knowledge of softball skills and strategies in one or more areas (e.g. offense, infield, etc). Other responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the head coach with the recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, social media and coordinating of camps and coaching clinics. Maintain knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Budgeted Salary Range: $35,568 - $40,000
Duties and Responsibilities of Assistant Softball Coach
- Assist with daily practice and game coaching
- Recruit prospective student athletes
- Assist with team travel and equipment check out and return
- Assist with summer camps and clinics
- Monitor academics and study table hours
- Assist with scouting and researching opposing teams Serve as a positive mentor and leader for the student athletes
- Enforce NCAA and regulations regarding team participation
- Assist with game management
- Assist with Fitness Center coverage
- Serve as Van driver transporting teams to and from away games
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education of Assistant Softball Coach
- Bachelor's Degree Required.
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Education, Fitness or related program is preferred.
Experience of Assistant Softball Coach
- Two years softball coaching experience required at the professional, college or high school level.
Core Competencies of Assistant Softball Coach
- Must have strong team building/management skills
- Ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts
- Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership
- Ability to interact with members of the public and media
- Ability to supervise temporary staff
- Understanding of the student-athletes' commitment to academics
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- May be asked to use personal vehicle to drive on behalf of the University
- Must meet the Minimum Driver Qualifications as defined by the Use of Vehicles for University Business Policy
- As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties.
