Job Title:  Assistant Professor of Integrative Human Health and Kinesiology

Job Summary

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites applications for a tenure track, full-time, nine-month position as an Assistant Professor of Integrative Human Health and Kinesiology in the Integrative Human Health Program housed within the Department of Biological Sciences and College of Engineering and Sciences. The expected start date for this position is August 12, 2024.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have an earned doctorate or be ABD with all degree requirements to be completed by August 12, 2024 in one or more Human Health and Kinesiology-related disciplines (e.g., Biomechanics, Motor Learning, Rehabilitation Science, etc.).
  • Documented teaching experience in the classroom in a variety of courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experiences teaching and mentoring underrepresented students (e.g., first-generation, ethnic and racial minorities, etc.)
  • A minimum of one year of post-doctoral or clinical experience.
  • Professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and/or National Strength and Conditioning Association.
  • Clinical experiences in athletic training, physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and/or other related settings.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Integrative Human Health and Kinesiology will teach courses that contribute to core degree requirements such as Biomechanics, Motor Learning, and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, as well as other courses in their specialty area. Candidates are expected to carry out an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and be involved in curriculum development and outreach activities. Professional activities should include scholarly research leading to refereed publication, and service to the profession, the university, and the community.

College and Department

The College of Engineering and Sciences serves over 1,321 undergraduate students and 161 graduate students across a wide range of academic programs. The college includes the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, and the School of Engineering.

 

The Department of Biological Sciences is a multi-disciplinary unit serving approximately 401 undergraduate majors and 13 graduate students with 14 tenured faculty and 3 full-time staff. The Department offers a B.S. degree in Integrative Human Health with approximately 100 majors taking a core of 33 credits with specific tracks in health care administration and communication, wellness and fitness, as well as health professional school preparation via pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy. The Integrative Human Health Program also supports the Interdisciplinary Fitness Management B.S. degree and is considering a new B.S. degree in Kinesiology. The Department also offers baccalaureate degrees in Biology and Medical Laboratory Science, and a master’s degree in Biology. In 2020, the state of the art, 68,000 sq. ft. Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building opened on the Hammond campus to house the Department of Biological Sciences and the College of Nursing. The new building includes flexible teaching spaces, research labs, and student interaction spaces. The Department also supports multidisciplinary collaboration opportunities through the Integrative Physiology and Health Sciences Center on the Hammond campus which has extensive equipment and space for research.
