Title: Academic and Student Success Advisor, Academic Center for Excellence

Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Academic & Student Success Advisor is to provide individual, appreciative and transformational advising to students on matters such as selection of major, course selection and sequencing, and academic performance. This position will advise and provide guidance to student processes and responsibilities necessary to satisfy academic requirements to declare a major, and successfully transition into that major in order to graduate. The Advisor proactively reaches out to targeted populations, and maintains curren and accurate records documenting individiaul student progress toward degree requirments.
The Academic & Student Success Advisor utilizes all resources to support and strengthen communication and outreach with assigned population; provides a positive environment which assists students in their personal and academic growth and development; discusses with and assists students in completing and processing necessary academic forms; and refers students to appopriate offices, learning resources and personnel as needed.
The Academic & Student Success Advisor works closely with faculty, administration, student outreach services, and other Purdue University Northwest staff in implementing, evaluating and improving student retention. This position assists students identified as academically at risk and participates in the development and implementation of intervention efforts by the University. This poition participates in the evaluation of the effectiveness of programs, courses, advising materials, policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field (e.g., social work, counseling, education)
Experience
Three years of professional work experience required. Professional work experience within a public higher education setting in an academic advising and/or retention-related position preferred.
