Duties and Responsibilities of Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach and Director of Hockey Operations

  • Coach the Men’s Ice Hockey Division 1 team in game competition in the ACHA. Direct daily practice during the prescribed season
  • Oversee hockey program, responsible for the development of the ACHA Division 1 and 3 teams
  • Supervise Assistant Coaches
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes
  • Lead team travel
  • Responsible for team equipment checkout and return
  • Construct competition schedule with approval of the Director of Athletics
  • Assist with academic monitoring of student-athletes
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with public relations and fundraising activities
  • Direct summer camps

Education of Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach and Director of Hockey Operations

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Education, Fitness or related program preferred
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Experience of Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach and Director of Hockey Operations

  • Two years’ ice hockey coaching experience required at the professional, college, or high school level

  • Must have strong team building/management skills
  • Ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership
  • Ability to interact with members of the public and media
  • Ability to supervise regular and temporary staff
  • Understanding of the student-athletes' commitment to academics
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally
  • As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the ACHA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance
