Job Summary

The Department of Behavioral Sciences in the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences at Purdue University Northwest is seeking applications for a Limited Term Lecturer (LTL) of Couple & Family Therapy to teach in our COAMFTE Accredited Masters program. LTL positions are temporary, non-benefits eligible, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach on campus courses from an effective, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging framework
  • Participate in course preparation and instruction – specific assignment may vary by semester, but could include didactic courses or experiential/practicum-supervision courses
  • Attend meetings as needed and required, or desired
  • Participate and respond to program requests for information, feedback, or data
  • Understand and adhere to university policy and regulations

Required Experience & Qualifications

Please note that these requirements may vary or be flexible based on the course assigned.

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree from a COAMFTE Accredited Couple/Marriage & Family Therapy program
  • Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist – Specifically, eligible for licensure in the States of Indiana and Illinois
  • Preference for Approved Supervisor or Supervisor-in-Training Status from AAMFT if interested or asked to supervise a practicum section
  • Experience or interest in teaching at the Graduate Level

Department of Behavioral Sciences Profile

Behavioral Sciences is a vibrant department with several programs and opportunities for collaboration. In addition to Social Work, we offer undergraduate majors in Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Development and Family Studies, and Sociology and a graduate program in Couple and Family Therapy. The department also houses the Couple and Family Therapy Center, which is located in the PNW Indianapolis Boulevard Counseling Center. Our students are primarily first-generation college students. In support of the University’s Strategic Plan, the Department is committed to recruiting and retaining diverse faculty and staff who foster diverse learning environments for students.

Program Profile

The Couple & Family Therapy Program at Purdue University Northwest embraces a scholar/practitioner model of systemic family therapy training, heavily informed and influenced by social justice and the critical examination of social discourse. This program trains people to become agents of social change that are able to provide ethical, research-informed, culturally competent relational mental health services to a range of clients from intersectional social locations. Our program offers multiple opportunities to specialize and train in various approaches to systemic treatment, along with the academic and experiential preparation to begin a career as a “Marriage and Family Therapist” (the current license/professional title of our mental health discipline). Our students regularly publish articles and papers, present at national and international conferences, and go on for doctoral education around the country.
