Job Summary

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. PNW seeks to attract exceptional candidates with expertise in Additive Manufacturing, Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics, Solid Mechanics and Materials Characterization. We are looking for a colleague who is a talented educator able to cover a wide array of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and whose research interests will provide opportunities for impactful engineering experiences for our students.

The College of Engineering and Sciences

The College of Engineering and Sciences serves over 1,200 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students across a wide range of academic programs. The college includes Departments of: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, and the School of Engineering with its departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Civil Engineering. The college also contains three distinguished and award-winning research centers, which include the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS), the Energy Efficiency and Reliability Center, and the Purdue Water Institute.

The School of Engineering

PNW’s School of Engineering is part of the College of Engineering and Sciences at Purdue Northwest. The School of Engineering currently comprises three departments: Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. Closely affiliated with the School are two distinguished and award-winning research centers, the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) and the Purdue University Northwest Water Institute (PWI).

The School’s programs were most recently ranked 52nd by US News & World Report in their category of Best Engineering Programs at engineering schools whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or a master’s degree. All of PNW’s engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE) is a multi-disciplinary unit currently serving about 340 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students. The department includes 14 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, two visiting faculty members, and two staff members. The unit offers bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering, as well as master’s degrees in Mechanical and Interdisciplinary Engineering with concentration in Civil Engineering.

The MCE department takes pride in their students regularly participating in a host of engineering competitions and technical conferences. Faculty are actively involved in research and have garnered externally funded grants, awards, and patents for their work.

Responsibilities

 Successful candidates are expected

  • to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level,
  • supervise graduate student research,
  • develop innovative internally and externally funded research projects,
  • and participate in the ABET accreditation process and interdisciplinary efforts within the department and the School of Engineering and the College of Engineering and Sciences.

Qualifications

 The successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields,
  • academic qualifications appropriate for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.
