Title:  Programmer/Analyst, Enterprise Application Systems

Job Summary

The position of Programmer/Analyst involves two overlapping skill sets, IT Business Analysis, and IT Application Development. The Programmer/Analyst will be a team player in a diverse, agile, pro-active applications team within Enterprise Applications, will participate in and contribute to department and University activities and initiatives, and will be expected to take ownership of issues and to respond to requests directly to the extent practical.  

Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining software applications. Analyze, modify, and maintain existing software applications as well as develop new solutions. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve application solution issues. Develop and execute application test plans and scripts by collaborating with business analysts, functional clients, and technical staff. 

Business Analyst:
Contributes to the development of overall business solution design, including re-engineering, implementing, and enhancing solutions with modeling processes, identification of requirements, and testing of developed solution. Responsible for developing and maintaining an understanding of the assigned functional areas to support business applications, troubleshooting issues and gather requirements for enhancements. Develop relationships with assigned business partners and will be a key contact for the business in select topic areas and a main contact for issue resolution on a day-to-day basis.


Core Competencies

Ability to work with SQL in a relational database; major programming language (e.g. java, php, plsql) & to learn & apply new programming languages & new techniques; Experience working with common programming technologies such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, REST, XML, JSON; Ability to define business requirements & solutions, & assist in overall project planning by identifying project milestones, phases, tasks, etc.; Ability to analyze & diagnose production problems, discover root causes, & implement fixes; Maintain security & enforcement of policies & procedures related to computer use, & to recommend controls by identifying problems, maintaining associated documentation & procedures; Effective verbal & written communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences at various levels.


Bachelor's degree required.  Preferrablly in computer science, information technology, engineering, programming, or related analytically demanding field.


Two years of experience in designing and developing business solutions, or application development, preferably in higher education and especially preferably with the Ellucian Banner student system.
