Title:  Student - Reading & Math Tutor for Elem Students, Boys and Girls Club

Job Summary

 

Federal Work Study eligible students only

 

General Functions

Provides academic tutoring services to a variety of individuals or groups. Creates and/or implements tutorial programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing, and test preparation. May also assist with enhancing the autonomous learning for student development through E-Learning modules.

 

Major Responsibilities

  1. Tutors students individually or in scheduled group study sessions to review principles, solve problems, and review for tests.
  2. May research and select learning materials, textbooks, software, and equipment to facilitate tutoring; may design specific handout, study, and related materials.
  3. Will assist members in the subjects of Math and Reading.

Core Competencies

 

Knowledge of:

  1. Safety practices and procedures relating to the work. 
  2. Basic computer skills and knowledge of basic programs including Microsoft Word.
  3. Principles related to development of youth between 6 and 18 years of age.
  4. Group leadership skills, and understanding of group dynamics.
  5. Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  7. Knowledge of test administration techniques and procedures.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  9. Basic data entry and/or word processing skills.
  10. Organizing and coordinating skills.
  11. Knowledge of tutorial/learning materials and instructional aids.
  12. Knowledge of peer counseling/tutoring processes and methods.
  13. Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans a plus.

 

Relationships:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff, Club members and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues and explain guidelines/give instructions/instruct and advise/counsel.

Education

  

High school diploma required.

Experience

 

  • Experience directly related to youth and youth programming, ages between 6 and 18 years of age.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Leadership skills.
