Job Summary

 

Building Service Workers are held by both graduate and undergraduate students. Building Service Workers are members of the Department of Housing and Residential Education who are to be compensated hourly for working at the University Village. Building Service Workers report directly to the Facilities Manager of HRE or their designee. The following responsibilities comprise the significant duties assigned Building Service Workers. Other duties may be assigned to Building Service Workers by the Professional custodial staff, Maintenance Staff, Housing Operations Coordinator, Associate Director of HRE, or Director of HRE.

 

General Responsibilities

 

Assist in maintaining, or may maintain, a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the University Village community. Provide custodial services for university village common spaces, offices, apartments, and bedrooms. In addition, one or more of the following may be an essential function of this position: (a) work a non-traditional schedule, see posted shift schedule, (b) learn and perform specialized cleaning procedures. May provide apartment access by locking and unlocking areas as scheduled by the Facilities Manager or their designee.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform custodial activities, frequencies in accordance with attached standard operating procedures.
  • Types of custodial activities include but are not limited to: Mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming, wiping, moving furniture, and or assisting with painting. Disinfecting toilets and sinks. Cleaning walls and washing windows.
  • Areas include but are not limited to: Stairwells, lounges, hallways, bedrooms, kitchens offices, meeting spaces, Vending/lounges, Restrooms,
  • Replenish restroom supplies. Safely use cleaning chemicals, load chemical dispensers, deliver supplies to areas as needed.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. Items that require lifting and moving include, but not limited to furniture, shelfs, heavy bags of trash, facilities cleaning & painting supplies.
  • Provide assistance in the absence of other custodial team members to insure cleaning frequencies are met.
  • Provide assistance as needed in setup of tables, chairs and other equipment to accommodate a wide variety of on campus event activities

Education

 

  • Building Service Workers must maintain a 2.30 cumulative and semester grade point average during the period of their employment.
  • Building Service Workers are also required to be a current enrolled student with Purdue Northwest. Building Service Workers must maintain a good conduct standing with Purdue University Northwest, as discerned by the Department of Housing and Residential Education. Failure to maintain each of these standards will result in termination from the Building Service Worker position.
