Overview of Financial Aid Processor

The Office of Financial Aid at Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Financial Aid Processor to join their team.  Our Financial Success Team is dedicated to supporting students throughout their PNW journey by providing support as they apply for aid and help discover other resources to pay for college.  The Financial Aid Processor plays a key role in processing student financial aid.  This position is housed at our Westville, IN campus, but can rotate between Hammond and Westville offices.  

This position has the ability to work in a hybrid work environment by working both on campus and remotely.  However, this may change to on-campus only if our business needs change.  

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:30pm

Duties and Responsibilities of Financial Aid Processor

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and school policies
  • Review and processing of dictated caseload, which includes but is not limited to:  verification, clearing SAR C-Flags, Direct Loan Proration, resolution of conflicting information, over awards, certifying PLUS/GRAD Direct Loan applications, award revisions and rejected disbursements. 
  • Assist the team lead with spring and summer processing and awarding
  • Serve as back-up for the electronic transmission of data between the Institution and the federal processor by importing the Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) from the Central Processing System (CPS) and importing Direct Loan and Pell grant data files from the Common Origination and Delivery (COD) system in Banner daily.
  • Export financial aid correction files from Banner and transmit to CPS. Review suspense file and resolve discrepancies.  Assist with resolving issues related to ISIR Data Load. 
  • Assist with updates and testing of the yearly roll Banner process each year as well as testing upgrades and patches as released by Ellucian. 
  • Ensures that the ISIR data load functions are procedures are followed according to the established daily and weekly processing schedule.
  • Provide financial aid counseling to students, parents, and supporters regarding all aspects of the financial aid process. Make necessary referrals to other student service or academic offices. Provide support to students experiencing family, personal, or economic crisis which may impact academic performance by providing options to assist with meeting educational costs.
  • Assist Team Leads with various projects and perform other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned.

Education of Financial Aid Processor

  • High school diploma/GED

Experience of Financial Aid Processor

  • 1 year Financial Aid experience
  • Must have experience using Excel as well as database management

  • Excellent problem solving, verbal and written communication skills  
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Capable of understanding and applying federal regulations relating to financial aid awards.

  • Must be able to work at least one evening per week and overtime during peak periods

  • As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties
  • PowerPoint and Knowledge of Ellucian Banner preferred
