Job Summary
The Department of Engineering Technology at Purdue University Northwest invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the fields of Electrical/Electronics and/or Robotics and Automation. The position will support strategic focus areas of the College of Technology within robotics, automation, and intelligent systems, with applications across Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechatronics Engineering Technology.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in electrical or electronics engineering or technology, or a related discipline, is required by the start of employment.
- Effective communication skills are required.
- Relevant, recent industrial experience or prior teaching experience is highly desirable.
- Undergraduate degree must be in a relevant area.
- Documentation of classroom effectiveness, external engagement, or related activities is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Teach and develop graduate and undergraduate courses in areas such as robotics, industrial automation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), process control, mechatronics, and related areas.
- Develop an independent, externally funded research program aligned with the candidate’s expertise and the strategic direction of the department.
- Support graduate students through sustained research activity.
- Participate in industrial engagement and various committees.
- Interacting with regional businesses are encouraged.
- Engage undergraduate and graduate students in applied research.
The applied research portfolio of the Department of Engineering Technology crosses the disciplines of mechatronics and electrical and computer engineering technology, with focus areas in materials, design, robotics, automation, smart manufacturing, digital twins, and additive manufacturing.
The Department of Engineering Technology offers full support when presenting peer review papers at conferences. The department and the university offer several internal opportunities for professional development and for external grant application preparation.

The Department of Engineering Technology is housed at the Hammond, Indiana, campus, and the Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. The department also offers master’s and doctoral programs through the College of Technology Graduate Studies.
