Overview of Senior Maintenance Technician

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to join their team. This positions primary functions will be focused at the Purdue Northwest Impact Lab in downtown Hammond. Typically, time will be split between the Impact Lab and the Hammond campus locations. It's possible for travel to other PNW locations. This position will be responsible for daily overview of the Impact Lab and property. Exterior will be checked for garbage and debris and cleaned up as needed. Report larger Grounds issues to the Hammond Grounds Manager.

 

Interior building checks will include general condition, HVAC equipment operation, temperature, lighting and plumbing systems. It is required that this staff member will be skilled enough to troubleshoot and make common repairs independently.

 

The Impact Lab will only require a few hours per day so this position will return to the Hammond Campus and perform similar tasks with the Maintenance or HVAC service staff.

 

Pay:

$26.00/hour

 

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with occasional overtime 

Duties and Responsibilities of of Senior Maintenance Technician

  • Electrical, plumbing and HVAC
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain lighting systems and electrical equipment <600 Volts
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plumbing systems. This includes toilets, faucets, fixtures, pumps and plumbing piping of all types
  • Monitor HVAC equipment for proper operation. Understand and use BAS system for the Impact Lab
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment and report larger issues to the Maintenance Manager or contact vendor for repair
  • General Maintenance
  • Install wall and floor coverings and ceiling systems
  • Repair and paint surfaces
  • Service door systems, locks, closers etc.
  • Perform daily trash pickup on exterior to maintain a clean appearance. Possibility of seasonal Grounds maintenance based on business need
  • Perform occasional cleanups within the Impact Lab. (Building Services will be contracted services)
  • Assist other maintenance or HVAC staff in a variety of repair and maintenance activities
  • Assist in grounds department, shipping and receiving or other areas as needed
  • Assist with snow removal on the Hammond Campus

Education of Senior Maintenance Technician

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

Experience of Senior Maintenance Technician

  • Two years of experience in basic building repairs and preventative maintenance in an instructional or commercial setting. Working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Possession of strong mechanical aptitude
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Maintain work logs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments
  • Ability to handle any and all power tools, ladders, and other necessary power equipment as required
  • Must have knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of Building facilities
  • Safety practices and procedures related to the building trades
  • Basic math to add subtract multiply and divide
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to navigate a database
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record (as determined by WL Risk Management via Motor Vehicle Records check)
  • Majority of work includes walking and standing with very little sitting; climbing stairs and ladders up to 10ft high also included in work day
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100+ lbs
  • May be subject to call back to the University for emergency purposes
  • Must work overtime as needed
  • Must be able to work between campuses if needed
  • Physical Activity: Physical activity could require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
