Job Summary

Association of Fundraising Professionals -NWI seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to allow the intern’s experience and creativity to shine in various aspects of marketing while working in a fun and professional work environment. The AFP-NWI Communications Internship is a professional skills internship to assist the President and advisory board in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies. The Communications Intern will work independently and in a team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming, events, and increasing the organization’s social media presence.

 

Start Date: Fall 2025/ Spring 2026

Hours: 8 hours/week, including weekly planning meetings with the supervisor

Pay: $15.00/hour

Education

  • PNW Student majoring in Marketing/Communications
  • PNW Federal Work-Study Student

Experience

  • Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc.
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to create posts and collateral pieces for annual National Philanthropy Day (held every November) and share/market/promote event
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop is highly desired.
  • Firm grasp of LinkedIn and Eventbrite platforms
  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management, and graphic design
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to support college and career programming
  • Self-starter, good time management, creative, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
  • Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas and judging correctly what will appeal to target audiences
  • Exceptional writing ability and experience with writing stories
  • Be creative and resourceful
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission
  • Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters.
  • Implement an annual communication calendar
  • Design event/program fliers, graphics, video and other marketing material
  • Create sponsorship and fundraising literature
  • Update and maintain the organizations social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting social media metrics and creating goals for success
  • Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns
  • Manage editorial and event calendars
  • Manage photo and video content
