Overview of Bursar Clerk

The Office of the Bursar is seeking a Bursar Clerk.  The Bursar Clerk will process window transactions, respond to emails from students and parents in the department email, and provide excellent customer service within the Bursar.  This person will also gain general knowledge of the functions of departments within the Enrollment Service Center.

 

This position does have the opportunity for a flexible work schedule but does require a strong on-campus presence.

 

Pay:

  • $17.00 - $17.25/hour

 

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday

PNW Job Title: Accounting Technician

Duties and Responsibilities of Bursar Clerk

  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to students, parents, and other university customers regarding student accounts, balances, payments, refunds, and payment options.
  • Respond to questions by phone, email, and in person, providing accurate information or directing customers to the appropriate university department when needed.
  • Process student account transactions, including cash, check, and credit card payments, refunds, financial aid checks, and approved financial aid advances.
  • Assist students and families with understanding account balances, payment options, payment arrangements, and online student account systems.
  • Balance and close the cash drawer, prepare daily deposits, and process cash, check, and coin deposits for university departments, student organizations, and Athletics.
  • Maintain accurate student account records, including account updates, holds, payment arrangements, receipts, and related documentation.
  • Process routine departmental financial transactions, returned mail, bulk mailings, and other administrative functions.
  • Schedule appointments and provide general administrative support for the Student Accounts/Bursar office, including ordering departmental supplies.
  • Serve as a Notary Public for students and employees, as authorized by the university.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling student, financial, and personal information.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Finance and Business Services team and assist with other Student Accounts and Enrollment Services responsibilities as needed.

Education

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED

Experience

  • One year of cashiering experience or money handling required

Core Competencies

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Must have strong customer service skills
  • Must be able to work overtime during peak registration periods
  • Must be able to work at least one evening per week or as needed
  • Ability to work in a cross-trained environment with enrollment services
