Job Summary

 

The Education & Outreach Coordinator represents and promotes the mission of the Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest to families, children, youth organizations, adults, faculty, school administrators and the general public. This position oversees all program development, scheduling, record keeping and evaluating. Develop an annual calendar of educational programs for youth and adults that includes key messages and learning outcomes in alignment with a budget and program evaluations. Execute education activities that are consistent with the arboretum’s mission and that serve multi-cultural and multi-generational audiences. Develop measurable outcomes for programs to help realize the arboretum’s mission. Serve as part of a cross-unit team to coordinate the visitor experience. Work with the Visitor Services & Volunteer Coordinator to foster the engagement of volunteers in educational activities. Research, write, implement and report on grants related to educational initiatives in collaboration with Executive Director.

 

 

Core Competencies

Ability to create and adhere to project budgets and deadlines. Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written skills. Ability to write and manage grants of varying sizes. Current first aid and CPR certification preferred. Ability to work outdoors and walk up to one mile at a time. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Ability to work Tuesdays-Saturdays.

Education

 

Requires a Bachelor's degree. 

 

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, education, biology, horticulture, forestry or a related area required.

Experience

 

Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience. 

 

2 years of experience in curriculum development and hands-on environmental education in outdoor settings. Experience developing, coordinating and administering a program in a public garden, forest preserve, camp, or other informal educational institution. Significant experience working with a variety of audiences including school groups, PreK-12 community groups, families, and adult groups. Demonstrated experience building successful collaborations with other organizations. Grant-writing experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
