Overview of Lead IT Administrator

Purdue Northwest is seeking a Lead IT Administrator to oversee our Central Desktop Administration (CDA) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a hybrid work environment between your home, Hammond, IN and/or Westville, IN campuses.  The CDA Team manages the computing environment by using various endpoint management tools, such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), JAMF Pro and Active Directory.  CDA keeps our personal computing environment secure while providing the tools and resources needed by the university community.  All faculty, staff, and lab workstations are managed by CDA.  In addition to endpoint management, CDA also researches and tests emerging technologies, working with other IS groups and departments on campus to bring the latest technologies to the university.  Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is a premier metropolitan university dedicated to empowering transformational change in our students and in our community. PNW sits between Chicago’s skyscrapers and Lake Michigan’s sandy shores.  You can have all the perks of a world-class city just a half hour drive away or enjoy the natural beauty of the Indiana Dunes National Park and Lake Michigan just 15 miles away.

PNW Position title:  Lead Central Desktop Administration

Duties and Responsibilities of Lead IT Administrator

  • Maintain and troubleshoot any issues related to systems used by the CDA team; systems include Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Bomgar, Active Directory Tools, JAMF, and OSX Server.
  • Maintain the Active Directory OU structure and SCCM queries to provide an accurate representation of the university computer inventory.
  • Build, troubleshoot and deploy desktop computer software and images using related software tools and utilities.
  • Package, test and deploy software and scripts for use in imaging and deployment to I.S. managed devices.
  • Create, test and deploy Group policies to I.S. managed devices. Test, deploy and report on security patch deployments to I.S. managed computers.
  • Maintain detailed and current documentation of computer configuration on the Information Services Confluence site.
  • Troubleshoot and repair desktop computers, related peripherals, operating systems and utilities. Research, present, and implement innovative technologies that may benefit the overall mission of IS and the overall university community.
  • Work closely with departmental partners, providing expertise as related to their initiatives.
  • Attend weekly operational meetings with inter/intra-departmental partners to maintain strong working relationships with the university community and ensure an efficient and secure computing environment.

Experience of Lead IT Administrator

  • 3 years of experience working with computer hardware & software, including endpoint management suites such as SCCM and JAMF.
  • Experienced with building, packaging, managing and deploying desktop computer images and software using related software tools and utilities.
  • Experience with service request ticket systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center, Active Directory Tools, VMWare desktop/software virtualization, Bomgar and OSX server preferred.
  • Experience leading technical support teams desired.
  • Experience with Active Directory tools and Group policy preferred.

Education of Lead IT Administrator

  • Bachelor's degree required  (Or Equivalent Experience.)
  • Technology-related or Computer Science degrees and/or certificates desired.

Core Competencies of Lead IT Administrator

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Apple and Windows based desktop computers, operating systems, utilities and related peripherals in a wired and wireless networked environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and repair knowledge of personal computers and related peripherals. Strong leadership skills required.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
