Our College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (CHESS) at Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Part Time Administrative Assistant.  As the largest college at PNW, we offer a vibrant student experience, an emphasis on experiential education, and strong and collaborative relationships among students, faculty, and staff. Duties and Responsibilities of Part-time Administrative Assistant

 

  • Works approximately 30 hours/week and benefits do apply!
  • Position will work primarily from our beautiful Westville, IN campus which is just 15 miles away from the Indiana Dunes National Park and Lake Michigan.  Position may also need to travel to our Hammond, IN campus occasionally.
  • Serve as the first point of contact within the department for students, faculty, staff, and public.
  • Coordinate student events, assist students with processing paperwork for grant opportunities and serve as first point of contact for student questions and concerns.
  • Assist with budgeting, hiring, purchasing, and provide high level support to ensure department operations run smoothly.
  • Schedule meetings and appointments using the technology associated (Zoom, WebEx, etc) as needed.

Experience of Part Time Administrative Assistant

 

  • Two years of Administrative Assistant experience
  • Experience in higher education preferred

Education of Part Time Administrative Assistant

 

  • HS Diploma required/GED

Core Competencies of Part Time Administrative Assistant

 

  • Knowledge of standard office procedures to provide support to the dean of the college as well as two department chairs
  • Ability to interface effectively with university administrators, faculty, students, staff, and the general university population;
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, coordinating, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Function professionally in a team environment with diverse groups
  • Ability to use good judgment in sensitive situations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web-based applications, Microsoft Office Suite (including email and calendar), as well as database management systems
