Join Purdue University Fort Wayne:

We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site, Heating & Cooling Mechanic, Senior in our Operations & Maintenance department. This position responds to daily work orders and conducts inspections on HVAC systems. The pay for this position is $30.00/hr.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Respond to daily work orders for issues relating to campus HVAC systems.
• Diagnose problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
• Ensure repairs and maintenance are completed, and when needed make recommendations for new equipment purchases to supervisor.
• Manage parts and supplies needed. 
• Conduct inspections on campus HVAC systems including chillers, coils, air handling units, rooftop units, VAV boxes, VRF and mini split systems, food service coolers and freezers, DDC and pneumatic controls, etc. and make necessary repairs.
• Analyze and develop HVAC layout of installations, ensuring compliance of construction, and local codes.
• Make recommendations for equipment purchases.
• Determine and purchase supplies necessary for installations and repairs. Install and connect new equipment as needed.   Assists with campus utilities shutdowns, including assisting outside contractors in locating and servicing facilities, equipment, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.      

Required Qualifications:

• HS diploma/GED
• Four years of HVAC experience; commercial experience is a requirement.
• Refrigeration license required.
• Demonstrable knowledge in various types of HVAC equipment/systems including air handling and rooftop units, mini split systems, VAV boxes, VRF systems, DDC and pneumatic controls, fume hoods etc.
• Familiarity with performing installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair of all refrigeration, heating or cooling equipment.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards.
• Must have the ability to work at various heights on ladders, bucket trucks, lifts, and scaffolds.
• Must be able to lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Check policy.
