Purdue University Fort Wayne is currently seeking a full-time, onsite International Student Advisor in the Office of International Education. The International Student Advisor supports Purdue University Fort Wayne’s international student population by providing guidance on immigration compliance, cultural adjustment, and academic success. The annual salary for this position is $44,000.00.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist students in complying with Department of Homeland Security and Department of State Regulations concerning their immigration status.
- Provide advice and guidance on travelling outside the United States, extensions/changes of status.
- Recommend and process student work authorizations (CPT and OPT/STEM OPT).
- Prepare and process official documents pertaining to incoming international students.
- Communicate with academic units and campus members regarding documents and details related to individual students and their dependents.
- Works closely with other campus units regarding regulatory requirements for assisting with the admission and ongoing support for students.
- Assist with US Department of Homeland Security and Department of State tracking and reporting requirements for international students; ensure database compatibility with internal and external regulatory software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year of experience managing detailed records or advising students in a professional setting.
- U.S citizenship or Permanent resident required by federal regulation.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computing, Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Experience working within international education or Higher Education; experience interpreting government regulations.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Current knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to F-1 and J-1 non-immigrant visa holders.
- Demonstrated experience in cross-cultural engagement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated proficiency with web-based database software or document management software.
