Join Purdue University Fort Wayne:

We are currently seeking a full-time, onsite Civil Engineering Lab Technician in our Civil and Mechanical Engineering department. This position provides technical support for the civil engineering and construction engineering technology (CE/CET) laboratory facilities. The pay for this position is $17.69/hr.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Technical support includes civil engineering materials, environmental, fluid mechanics, soil construction engineering technology and foundation, strength of materials, transportation, construction management and surveying.
• Provide, under indirect/minimum supervision, technical support and supervision to lab activities and experiments, student worker activities, senior design and student competitions projects, and faculty research lab activities.
• Technical support includes safety, operation, maintenance, schedule repair of equipment, and inventory control of all labs.
• Provides professional and technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students working with them to develop new or modified lab equipment, components, products, and measuring instruments.
• Identifies and recommends purchases of equipment and supplies as needed and coordinates the purchase of equipment. 
• Works to ensure proper safety procedures and protocols are being followed in all CE/CET labs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Minimum two years’ work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background knowledge of civil and construction engineering practices including lab tests and analyses.
• Effective organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
• Must have basic computer skills and ability to write technical reports and conduct field inspections.
• Ability to schedule/perform regular calibration of equipment, update software, maintain testing equipment and instruments and prepare lab samples.
