Overview of Housing and Resident Education Custodian

The Housing Department is seeking a Housing and Resident Custodian for our New Calumet Hall Dorm.  This position will ensure a well-maintained facility to promote a clean, safe and healthy environment for Purdue University Northwest (PNW) students and staff.  Provide custodial services for facilities, primarily in the Residence Hall public areas which include but are not limited to entranceways, stairwells, lounges, hallways, restrooms and residential rooms. Provide assistance in the absence of other custodial members to ensure cleaning frequencies are met.  Duties include but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, buffing, scrubbing, carpet cleaning, power washing restrooms, cleaning windows, etc. Provide cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Be able to perform job responsibilities with direct or minimum supervision.  Must be able to travel to other PNW locations as needed.

 

Pay:

  • $15.00/hour

 

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
  • Occasional evening or weekend work

Duties and Responsibilities Housing and Resident Education Custodian

  • Clean and sanitize public and common areas of University Village, including lobbies, conference rooms, hallways, stairwells, and public restrooms
  • Clean unoccupied resident rooms and apartments, including rooms in otherwise occupied apartments.  Duties include but are not limited to cleaning bedrooms, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers, kitchens, vacuuming and cleaning carpet
  • Moving of furniture to ensure all areas of apartments are being cleaned properly
  • Perform trash and recycling duties, including but not limited to collecting and emptying trash and recycling bins throughout University Village
  • Assist in training student staff for summer cleaning projects
  • Assist maintenance in performing basic repairs such as replacing light bulbs and updating electronic locks
  • Assist with lockouts during business hours
  • Assist with snow removal

Education Housing and Resident Education Custodian

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED

Experience Housing and Resident Education Custodian

  • No experience required
  • Previous custodial/janitorial experience preferred

Core Competencies Housing and Resident Education Custodian

  • Basic computer skills required
  • Communicate and provide feedback related to Work Unit
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, climb a ladder up to 6 ft. high
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs
  • Demonstrate stable work history
  • Ability to work adjusted schedule dependent upon area of coverage
  • Ability to work overtime to meet the business needs of the University
  • Perform other related duties as requested
