Job Summary
The Mail Distribution Assistant is a member of the residence hall staff and is responsible for all mail (on/off campus) operations of The University Village community. The Mail Distribution Assistant is supervised by the Associate Director of Housing and Residential Education. The following responsibilities comprise the significant duties assigned to Community Assistants. Other duties may be assigned.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure that the mail that is delivered to University Village is carefully and consistently sorted (Monday through Saturday-except on major holidays).
- Ensure that packages that are delivered to University Village are properly logged, labeled and stored into the designated package areas
- Ensure that mail addressed to individuals who no longer reside in University Village (or that was misdelivered) is carefully and appropriately labeled for the Associate Director to evaluate.
- Communicate any mail issues that arise to the Associate Director for Housing Administration by emailing on the day they are discovered.
- Properly distribute packages to the residents of the University Village community during packages hours at the Griffin Hall mail center.
- Participate in trainings, meetings, certification testing, and/or educational requirements as specified by the Division of Enrolment Management and Student Affairs and the Department of Housing and Residential Education.
- Adhere to University Student Code of Conduct, all residence hall guidelines, and the Mail Distribution Assistant expectations and policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Housing Administration
Terms of Employment
- Be enrolled in twelve (12) academic credits at Purdue University Northwest. Graduate students are required to be enrolled in nine (9) academic credits. Students who drop below full-time status once hired may not continue to work. Students who have been dismissed from or leave the University during the time of their employment will be terminated immediately. There is no credit hour requirement for Summer employment.
- Maintain at least a 2.3 cumulative grade point average and a 2.3 semester grade point average. Student grades will be checked at the end of each semester and summer session.
- Must maintain a good conduct standing with Purdue University Northwest, as discerned by the Associate Director for Housing and Residential Education
- Period of employment is for the academic school year (Fall & Spring). Training and preparation for Mail operations will require the student’s attendance and participation in training and activities prior to the start of the fall semester. If the student has any prior disciplinary actions in their file, they will be required to re-interview for the position (academic term).
- Intent to work for the summer will be asked by Associate Director for Housing Administration in February of the spring semester.
- Typical work hours are between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm Sunday through Saturday. Mail Distribution Assistants eligible for college work study will paid at the equivalent rate.
- Package distribution hours are: Sunday-Saturday 5:00pm-9:00pm
- Salary is $10 per hour.
- Any student employee is allowed a maximum of 25-30 hours per week for all campus employment combined during the academic year.
- International student employees cannot exceed 20 hours per week.
