Job Summary

The College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Purdue University Northwest announces an exciting opportunity to apply for a Visiting Clinical Instructor position in our CAEP-accredited School of Education and Counseling to start August 2027. The successful candidate will teach courses primarily in the Elementary program, primarily the area of literacy. 

 

Position Responsibilities & Description
The Visiting Clinical Instructor is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position within the School of Education and Counseling. The successful candidate will teach up to 5 courses each semester, supervise teacher candidates in fields, and support program operations through service and committee work.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach five courses per semester (5-5 load) in literacy and foundational education areas.
  • Attend and participate in Education Program faculty meetings.
  • Engage in service activities that support the School, College, and University, including committee work, as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on program assessment, accreditation, recruitment, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform other duties related to the operation, continued accreditation, and advancement of the educator preparation program.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited program in Education (Literacy related)
  • Minimum of 3 years as a K-12 teacher
  • Licensed, or eligible for a license, as a teacher in the state of Indiana (license does not have to be current)
  • Science of Reading endorsement or similar certificate

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful teaching courses at university level (literacy methods preferred)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems for higher education
  • Awareness and knowledge of AI and how to effectively integrate in courses

School of Education and Counseling Profile

The School of Education and Counseling serves over 300 students in undergraduate education programs (elementary and secondary) and graduate program in counseling education.  Degrees from these majors lead to careers as K-12 teachers, special education specialists, and mental health and school counselors. All candidates are prepared to receive licensure following successful completion.
