Academic Program Manager

Job Summary

The Department of Political Science at Purdue is searching for a dynamic and innovative leader with strong interpersonal skills to serve as our Academic Program Manager. We seek someone committed to creating high-quality educational programming and strong connections between the department and its students. The Academic Program Manager works in consultation with faculty and administration in the Department of Political Science within the College of Liberal Arts.  The Manager will take a leadership role within the department working closely with faculty, students, recruitment office, marketing office, and other Department, College, and University administration.
The program manager is responsible for day-to-day operations of the academic programs, including scheduling, administering policies, communications, and outreach to students, faculty, alumni, and other stakeholders. The academic program manager plays a key role in recruiting students, evaluating program performance, planning programming to engage students, and supporting the missions of the department.

  • Master’s degree. 
  • One (1) year of experience in higher education instruction, program administration, or related field. 
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be accepted.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a professional capacity with diverse faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members. 
  • Excellent communication, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills, including relationship building with internal and external constituents as needed. 
  • Ability to manage competing demands, prioritize and organize work assignments, communicate status of projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage, analyze and interpret data, including the ability to communicate data visually.  
  • Ability to exercise professional judgement to solve problems independently and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. 
  • Demonstrate Initiative and willingness to learn new skills, embrace changing technology, interpret, and communicate policies, and procedures.  
  • Knowledge of academic procedures and structures. 
  • Ability to occasionally work evening and weekends which may include travel.  



  • Strong skills in Excel, ability to compile, integrate and analyze complex data, and familiarity with Stata, or R or similar statistical software.   
  • Ability to functionally supervise staff effectively
  • Knowledge of Political Science 
  • Comprehension of and facility with electronic and social media communication tools.
