Assistant Director, Multicultural Education, Residential Life

Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Multicultural Education oversees the overall development and implementation of educational opportunities for Residential Life, directly impacting residential students’ success, including programs which support underrepresented minority groups. This position will participate in the development and implementation of program and departmental policies, processes and procedures including documenting processes, determining partner roles, expectations, and support strategies. This role will continually assess and evaluate diversity and inclusion programs and implement new program initiatives.  Responsible for cultivating relationships, facilitating communication, and implementing outreach efforts with campus partners and community leaders to support diversity and inclusion programs and ensure a collaborative effort in serving students. Coordinate, develop and facilitate diversity and inclusion training efforts for Residential Life, as well as support efforts in developing student leaders. Assist in campus wide efforts to support diversity and inclusion efforts for students and participate as member, advisor, or chair to diversity and inclusion related committees.  Lastly, this role will work on a variety of projects relating to diversity issues to solve organizational problems and participate in implementation of resolutions.  



  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, human resources, or related field.
  • Four years of professional work experience in relation to diversity efforts, program administration, human resources, student affairs, residential life, or related.
  • Graduate experience will be considered toward the minimum experience.
  • Ability to support a culture of professionalism in alignment with unit values. 
  • Skills in decision making/problems solving, continuous improvement/change management, strategic thinking, financial management, and drive for results.
  • Skills in supervision, leading others and promoting teamwork in daily work activity. 
  • Ability to work and thrive under limited supervision.
  • Must have the ability to understand and interpret related local, state, and federal regulations, guidelines, codes, and laws.
  • Demonstrated effective customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Desire to increase knowledge and skills through on-going development activities.
  • Knowledge of issues facing multicultural students.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with a diverse student body. 
  • A valid US or Canadian Driver's License.


  • Master’s Degree in higher education or related field. 
  • A commitment to student learning.
  • Ability to provide an example of collaborative programmatic efforts.

  • This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends based on business need.
