Custodial Supervisor Day (University Residences) - Building Services

Job Summary

Supervise the shift custodial operations of 25-40 custodians assigned to up to 20 buildings in the Building Services Department.  Plan, coordinate and schedule custodial activities including the requisition of general custodial supplies, inventory for assigned buildings, and approve and monitor work hours, overtime and flextime.  Travel among buildings and inspect individual areas for compliance with customer service and department standards, safety procedures, etc. Consult with General Manager on status of daily shift activities, and advise of problems and/or needs. Foster teamwork and staff professional development. This position is considered "Essential Personnel" for campus emergencies, and is subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies.

Required: 

  • Associate degree in supervision or related field
  • Supervisory experience
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience; Associate’s degree and 3 years of supervisory experience or a high school diploma and 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources 
  • Must have proven leadership and customer service skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, employees and peers necessary
  • Conflict resolution skills needed
  • Strong computer skills required including knowledge of Outlook, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics 
  • Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions during snow removal operations
  • Valid US or Canadian driver's license

Preferred:

  • Five years supervisory experience
  • Custodial experience and supervision
  • Knowledge of campus buildings 
  • Working knowledge of custodial techniques

Additional Information:

  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
  • Hours for this position are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Academic/Occupied) and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Summer/Un-occupied); hours may vary based on departmental need
  • Requires occasional weekend and holiday “On Call” duties
  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
