Senior Academic Advisor/Coordinating Academic Advisor

Job Summary

Serve as Coordinating Academic Advisor for students in the College of Health & Human Sciences.  Primary advising area will be for students in the Department of Public Health. Duties will include advising, meeting with prospective students and families, and serving as department liaison.


  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development, counseling, and/or related field
  • Experience with academic advising
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy
  • Ability to facilitate training and orientation activities
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
  • Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Possess a learning orientation to changing technology
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


  • Knowledge of undergraduate student recruitment
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
  • Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS 
  • Knowledge of developmental learning theories
