Senior Director, Student Affairs
Job Summary
The Senior Director of Student Services for the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) serves as a member of the HHS Leadership Team, with strategic responsibility for overseeing the HHS Office of Student Services. The Senior Director manages a large unit, including multiple teams and services led by other supervisors, including undergraduate recruitment, orientation, student success, academic advising, career development, and other student support activities designed to increase student success. The Senior Director is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of HHS Student Services. The position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
The Senior Director provides leadership, expertise, and vision for HHS Student Services. The position serves in a collaborative and coordinating role with college leadership and campus partners. The Senior Director serves as the HHS Director of Academic Advising and represents HHS on the Purdue University Advising Leadership Team (ALT). The position manages employment, training, development, and supervision of staff; develops and oversees budget development; provides advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of complex issues; makes recommendations that influence unit and University-wide policies or programs; communicates on behalf of HHS Student Services; and serves as a campus advocate for HHS undergraduate students.
Required:
- Master’s degree in Student Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience of student advising, student services, student affairs, counseling, or other student-facing experience.
- Ability to develop a clear vision and strategy consistent with the HHS mission, vision, and values.
- Demonstrated leadership skills that result in high-quality services
- Demonstrated experience with managing large teams and budgets.
- Strategic thinking with the capability to contribute at the senior administrative level and to lead other leaders.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that reflect effective listening and authentic engagement with individuals at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
- Strong situational leadership skills and the ability to maintain and create a high-performing team.
- Strong collaboration skills with individual, group, and community-wide partners
- Ability to create and sustain a culture of trust and confidence.
- Knowledge of contemporary issues of student development; student mental well-being; diversity, access, and equity; recruitment and retention; advising; career development; and financial aid, including the current scholarship and educational approaches that inform and address these issues.
- Knowledge of how varied forms of institutional data can be leveraged to meet the College’s goals.
- Understanding of laws, regulations, and policies related to higher education.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively collaborate with executive leadership, faculty, staff, students, parents, and campus partners, and external parties
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policies and procedures
- Experience with academic advising
Preferred:
- Knowledge of undergraduate student recruitment and/or undergraduate student success
- Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
- Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS
- Knowledge of developmental learning theories

- Minimum starting salary - $120,900
