Job Summary

Library Student Assistants provide customer service at the Library’s Public Services Desk. This includes assisting students, faculty, staff, and community borrowers with equipment use, directional questions, and locating library resources and services.

 

  • Must be an undergraduate student at Purdue University Northwest (PNW)
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Applicants must submit their Fall 2026 class schedule for consideration

Responsibilities

Front Desk & Customer Service

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the library front desk
  • Assist with check-in/check-out of library materials
  • Help users place holds and navigate library systems (including PurdueBorrow)
  • Provide basic research assistance and directional support
  • Explain and apply library policies and procedures

Facility Operations

  • Open and close the library as scheduled, including independent shifts
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment
  • Perform daily checks of library computers and equipment
  • Clean monitors, keyboards, and work areas as needed

Library Materials

  • Shelve, shift, and organize library materials
  • Shelf read, dust, and straighten collections
  • Maintain orderly shelves and public areas

Technology Support

  • Troubleshoot basic issues with:
    • Computers
    • Printers
    • Scanners
    • Photocopiers
    • Microform machines

Collections & Records

  • Check database and online journal links for errors
  • Receive and evaluate donated materials for catalog inclusion or replacement needs

Education

  • Must be a current PNW undergraduate student
