Job Summary

Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI) and Purdue University have invested heavily into the development of modeling, simulation, advanced manufacturing and testing capabilities to support the delivery of hypersonic systems to the nation.  PARI has formed close partnerships with government and industrial partners to position itself as a key contributor to delivering next generation hypersonic systems. 

 

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects from concept through completion. This role serves as a technical liaison between cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, finance, contracts, and external partners, ensuring project objectives are met on time, within scope, and on budget. The Project Engineer applies engineering principles and project management practices to drive innovation, resolve technical challenges, and deliver high-quality solutions aligned with organizational goals. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential for success in this position. 

 

The successful candidate is someone who will leverage their technical background to drive the team towards execution of deliverables in accordance with customer milestones and requirements in a variety of topic areas. These topic areas include systems engineering and system of systems modelling and simulation, digital engineering, additive and advanced manufacturing of high temperature materials, mechanical testing, component quality assurance, validation and verification.  Candidates with recent and relevant experience in one or more of these areas will be most successful.

What We Are Looking For

Education and Experience:

 

Required:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related fields.
  • Two (2) years experience or substantial hands-on experience in metal additive.
  • Salary and responsibilities will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.  

 

Preferred:

  • Candidates with related industrial experience.
  • Candidates with experience working in a laboratory research environment are strongly preferred.

 

Skills:

 

Required:

  • Strong project management abilities, including managing schedules, budgets, scope, and resource allocations.
  • Proficient in project management-related software (e.g., Microsoft Project). 
  • Hands-on experience with one or more key disciplines including, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, advanced manufacturing techniques including additive manufacturing, mechanical behavior of materials, material characterization, and/or component validation and verification.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Able to provide technical direction in proposal writing in areas of expertise.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts effectively.

 

Preferred:

  • PMP certification is desired but not required.

 

Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance to be considered for this position. Maintaining this clearance is a continuous condition of employment. Failure to obtain or retain the required clearance may result in termination.
