The Career Specialist will provide support to Purdue University Global. Building on Purdue University's mission to provide greater access to affordable, high-quality education, Purdue University Global is a public, nonprofit institution offering a world-class education online.
The Career Specialist proactively develops strong, long-term partnerships with Purdue Global (PG) students and graduates by providing personalized coaching services that engage and assist them in achieving their education and career goals. The Career Specialist provides comprehensive consultative services that assist students and graduates in developing short and long-term plans to meet their desired career objectives.
What to expect in this role:
- Relationship Building & Metric Attainment:
- Proactively develop partnerships with assigned cohorts of students/graduates with the purpose of collaborating with graduates on their job search strategies to advance their careers. Activities include but are not limited to: sourcing and sending job leads, marketing graduates to employers, coaching students/graduates on effective resume writing, social media use, job searching, and networking.
- Conduct ongoing collaborative discussions with graduates on job searches and report metrics on assigned cohorts within your assigned program of study.
- Advise and coach students/ graduates in their development of professional skills such as time management, business etiquette, communication, and other soft skills to assist students in becoming strong candidates for employment.
- Internal and External Partnerships:
- Develop relationships with employers to plan, manage, and host industry-specific employer presentations, market student/graduate skills to employers, and gather job leads to share with students/graduates. This includes research and proactive outreach to potential employers to source individualized job leads to support students, marketing planned events to students, and distributing employer job leads.
- Develop and/or facilitate interactive training sessions/webinars that match student’s needs. Attain positive feedback metrics from students in the classroom presentations.
- Collaborate with Academic partners and other departments within the university to integrate career-related content and skill development throughout the student life cycle.
- Reporting: Assume full ownership for the collection, analysis, and reporting of graduate employment outcomes and service-related metrics for assigned student cohorts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
Required:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in recruiting/staffing or metrics based roles, including career services, coaching, marketing/sales, or similar experience.
- In lieu of degree, a combination of education and experience will be considered (IE: Associate’s Degree + 4 years of experience, or a High School Diploma + 6 years of experience).
Skills Needed:
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite software, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Google applications such as Gmail, Chat, and Meet, as well as Zoom.
- Ability to achieve metric-based goals through strong and effective relationship-building.
- Comfortable appearing on camera for video calls and presentations, including virtual meetings, delivering training sessions, hosting webinars, and engaging with others in a professional manner.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, balance competing demands for time, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Capable of building strong working relationships across teams, departments and Schools.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, resolve issues, or make recommendations as appropriate.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles and methods to suit different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a professional demeanor with people at all levels within the organization.
Additional Information:
- The target salary is $55,000-$58,000.
