Job Summary:
The Business Manager directs the management of finance and business services for Purdue Global (PG) with annual weighted operating expenditures in the range of $30-40 million. This role collaborates closely with central business service operations and other related entities in meeting the strategic goals of the University. This Business Manager plays a key role in the preparation of financial and management reports to support long-range planning forecast; budget recommendations, planning, and analysis; and financial analysis and strategic financial management of area resources.
The Business Manager leads special projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Director of Finance. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of specialist reports to support short- and long-range forecasting and making budget recommendations. The Business Manager serves as a mentor and key resource person within the Finance Department. This role serves as the resource/liaison for PG Departments and Schools and maintains a unit that provides excellent business management support to Deans, Department Heads, faculty, and staff.
This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Finance and includes a virtual work location.
What to expect in this role:
- Financial - Direct the management of finances with the student support area. Assist department with analyzing financial data to prepare for upcoming projects. Provide leadership with historical reports, projections and analytical studies that facilitate decision-making processes. Create and prepare routing and specialized reports utilizing systems to gather needed data. Provide staff and customers with historical reports, projects and analytical studies that facilitate decision-making processes.
- Management - Interpret, administer, and communicate federal, state and University/Unit policies and procedures. Analyze systems, procedures, policies, and resources; take appropriate leadership action to provide the most effective business support for the Unit. Advise student leadership, deans, department heads, directors, or appropriate person regarding University policies and procedures. Identify the unique needs of a self-supporting activity within the context of the University environment. Exercise judgment regarding high risk and high liability activities; provide recommendations for review by supervisor or executive officers as appropriate
- Fiscal Approver Administration - Responsible for Business Manager level fiscal approval roles which include but are not limited to: Procurement, Travel, Accounting forms, Role Requests for new hires, new P-cards/limit increases, Fiscal approval of gifts, grants and scholarships, etc.
- General Activities - Lead special projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Director of Financial Affairs. Serve on a variety of committees and initiatives to review, recommend, and implement changes to policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or related field of study required.
- Four (4) years experience in business administration, financial management, or related experience required.
- Preferred qualifications:
- 6+ credit hours of accounting coursework
- Higher education experience
- Knowledge of SAP, Cognos, and Banner.
- A demonstrated knowledge of sponsor and University regulations and basic proficiency in all technical and professional skills related to business office and contract grant management.

- Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments, and Schools.
