Job Summary
The Evaluator I is responsible for evaluating diverse sources of credit for prior learning to determine the appropriate credit for prospective and enrolled students. The Evaluator I uses expertise in academic policies, institutional guidelines, and subject matter knowledge to accurately evaluate learning sources to ensure a fair and consistent credit evaluation process. The work of the Evaluator I contributes to students’ successful transition of prior learning to the academic offerings of the university.
Like every employee in the Office of the Registrar, this position is expected to perform his/her tasks with the highest levels of integrity, quality and productivity. We are all also called upon to:
Identify problems, improvements, and errors and proactively and professionally raise these to the attention of appropriate management.
What to expect in this role:
- Credit for Prior Learning Evaluation
- Transcript Evaluation: Thoroughly reviews and analyzes credit for prior learning transcripts from prospective and enrolled students to determine the equivalency of learning and assign degree plan credits
- Research and Verification: Conducts necessary research to ensure accurate and thorough evaluation of learning from other institutions and organizations
- Policies and Practices: Stays up-to-date with relevant higher education regulations, institutional policies, program requirements, and department practices regarding credit evaluation to ensure accurate and consistent decision-making
- Communication: Provides accurate and timely information regarding evaluations, including recommendations, where appropriate, for further actions that may benefit students in their pursuit of credit for prior learning
- Collaboration: Collaborates with advising, registrar’s office, academic departments, and other stakeholders to streamline evaluations both procedurally and in support of individual students
- Projects and Initiatives
- Project Support: Participates in and supports department projects to improve, enhance, refine, and expand evaluation services
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1-2 years experience working in an administrative position or office environment is preferred.
- Experience working in higher education is preferred.
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite software, such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint, as well as Google applications such as Gmail, Chat and Hangout.
- Experience using student information systems, degree plan management tools, and workflow systems preferred; ability to learn new systems and stay up-to-date with changes.
- Effective analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, resolve issues or make recommendations as appropriate.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments, and Schools.
- Actively engage in and contribute to a culture of constant process improvement.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style and method to suit different audiences.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance competing demands for time and prioritize workload to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
