Overview of Manager, University Maintenance

Our Maintenance Department is seeking a Manager of University Maintenance to join our dynamic team at Purdue University Northwest.  From maintenance requests to developing new, state-of-the-art buildings, our Maintenance Department provide services that support PNW’s commitment to excellence. We provide general repair activities which includes plumbing, access hardware, lighting, electrical, carpentry, general maintenance, lock & cylinder repair, building envelope maintenance, preventive maintenance and coordination and oversight of outside service contractors.  This position will work at both our campuses located in Hammond, IN and Westville, IN.

PNW Job Title:  Manager, Maintenance Services 

Duties and Responsibilities of Manager, University Maintenance

  • Provide daily supervision and assign work orders and projects to maintenance staff
  • Monitor and encourage staff development through on-the-job and formal training
  • Review, prioritize and assign projects, work requests and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Establish annual department goals
  • Oversee daily operation of central heating and cooling plant
  • Monitor energy management system for optimal operations and customer comfort
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual capital budget
  • Monitor expenditures of the maintenance operating budget
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment
  • Direct, maintain and enforce safety programs and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, requirements and buildings codes
  • Assist maintenance staff on specific jobs to facilitate completion of the job and training of the employees
  • Respond to campus emergencies
  • May be required to travel between PNW locations as needed

Experience of Manager, University Maintenance

  • 5 years of experience in Direct management and oversight of daily activities related to mechanical, electrical, HVAC and building construction maintenance of a multi-facility environment.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Energy Management Systems and Maintenance management software; steam boiler and chiller experience.

Education of Manager, University Maintenance

  • High School diploma required.  Associate degree preferred.

Core Competencies of Manager, University Maintenance

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse constituencies and accomplished written and communication skills are necessary
  • Ability to update and maintain a work order system and other computer related programs
  • Working knowledge of architectural plans and specifications are essential
  • As business needs arise employees may be required to travel between campuses and/or be reassigned to a different campus location
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25lbs to 50lbs frequently and up to 60lbs occasionally
