Job Title:  Associate Director, Orientation Programs
City:  West Lafayette
Job Description:

Job Summary

Staff and students in Orientation Programs at Purdue University facilitate experiences where new undergraduate students are welcomed “All Aboard Purdue,” a four-step process to start their journey as Boilermakers. The four steps are interconnected to help transition incoming undergraduate students to campus each year.

Reporting to Purdue’s Director of Orientation Programs, the Associate Director of Orientation Programs is a recognized subject matter expert working under limited oversight to plan, prepare, and execute programs in support of the Orientation Programs mission of introducing and connecting all new undergraduate students to Purdue University. This staff member will collaborate with individuals across campus and in the community, develop and oversee program development, and set the vision for on-site delivery of programs in West Lafayette including: Boiler Gold Rush (BGR), Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi), Boiler Cold Rush and Summer Visit Days for undergraduate students.

This position joins a dedicated Orientation Programs team committed to innovating and continuously moving programs and experiences forward for new students and staff. Seeking to understand the experiences of students, with the desire to think critically and thoughtfully about supporting the mission of introducing and connecting all new undergraduate students to Purdue University, is critical in this role.

The staff member in this role will work closely with all members of the Orientation Programs team to achieve the office mission of synchronizing onboarding efforts for students in West Lafayette and Indianapolis. They will be an active supporter and champion of all orientation work, including pre-arrival programs at all terms, the peer leadership model of 700+ students, and orientation efforts at both locations. This professional will effectively and independently collaborate with and maintain many internal and external partners to produce successful orientation programming.

Other office, departmental, and university initiatives may require attention at different times in this role. Strategic and appropriate use of University, revenue-generated, and gift funds in support of program goals is required. The nature of work in orientation is cyclical and has peak seasons, which sometimes require staff members to work nights and weekends, and at times may give the opportunity for flexible and hybrid work. This position will report to the Director of Orientation Programs and may be asked to serve in absence of the principle when needed. Other duties may be assigned later as support for undergraduate students at Purdue University evolves. This position will work primarily in-person on campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.
