Job Summary

Are you a data professional who is interested in helping the next wave of students experience the impact of data? Purdue University and The Data Mine team are looking for an individual that is self-driven and with the ability to set and meet their own goals to become its next Data Science Technical Specialist.  The Data Science Technical Specialist role reports to the Managing Director of Data Science within The Data Mine organization at Purdue University. The role will focus on helping students build skills in all aspects of data (science, engineering, and application development) through experiential learning with industry professionals. The role will also focus on research into different data science and data engineering topics and how we translate this information into helpful and accessible resources for our students. Our team understands that no one person can be an expert in all things, but if you are interested in data we’d love to speak with you! 

 

Required:

  • B.S. in analytics or computation-related major (mathematics, statistics, computer science, computer information technology, predictive analytics)
  • One year of experience in a related field
  • Experience working in Python
  • Skilled in data analytics skills and willing to learn new methods
  • Ability to read and create technical documentation
  • Ability to educate others on technical topics
  • Ability to interact with individuals at various levels across campus and external to the university
  • Must be able to be a team collaborator

 

Preferred:

  • Additional experience in technical consulting, Web app development, Model pipelines, Production deployment, Automated code testing, and/or Advanced visualization
  • Accessibility in the workplace and accessible application design
  • Proficiency with NLP modeling, SQL, Database systems, HTML/Django, Tableau, and/or PowerBI
  • Passion for continued education and content development
  • Understanding of predictive analytics  
  • American Sign Language (ASL)
